To the Tinman Triathlon community:

CliffTinmanOften described as the People╩╗s Triathlon, the Tinman Triathlon has been a Hawaii sports event tradition since 1979. Besides the original Ironman, it was the first local Oahu tri-sport event. The primary objective is to create, plan, and organize a race that will challenge and inspire all participants for this short but demanding tri-aerobic swim-bike-run combination. This primary objective also included the offer of safety, fun and pride to every interested athlete.

Popular because of the distance, location and the scenic ride from Waikiki, through Kahala, out to Hawaii Kai and back to Kapiolani Park, there were always challenges to putting on the race. To have the safest possible event, the bike course needed to have many special duty police.

In recent years, fulfilling this requirement has become a more difficult and challenging task. Thanks to the extra effort of the available police officers along with volunteer assistance, the event has prospered and continued for 37 years.

The Honolulu City and County and State of Hawaii Departments of Transportation and Roadway Use, the State of Hawaii DLNR Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation, the Honolulu Police Department, as well as the Honolulu City and County of Parks Department have always assisted and supported the event all these years.

The Tinman Triathlon will end now with memories of a fun, challenging, and safe event. It has provided many unforgettable moments for all participants, especially the many first-timers.

Thank you again to ALL the volunteers and supporters over the years. It could not have been a success without your help!
